OF PSEUDO-STROKE POSITIONS AND DIRECTIONS HANHONG XUE AND VENU GOVINDARAJU CEDAR, State University of New York at Bu alo, Bu alo, NY 14260, USA E-mail: fhxue, govindg@cedar.bu alo.edu Chain-coded contours are informative in o -line character recognition. As approximations to contours, sequences of pseudo-strokes consisting of both positional and directional information make up feature vectors for character images. In order to carry out fast pattern matching, a scheme of generating xed-length feature vectors that combine information about outer contour and inner contours into a uniform data structure is proposed and tested on CEDAR databases.

Model-based stroke extraction and matching for handwritten Chinese character recognition
This paper proposes a model-based structural matching method for handwritten Chinese character recognition (HCCR). This method is able to obtain reliable stroke correspondence and enable structural interpretation. In the model base, the reference character of each category is described in an attributed relational graph (ARG). The input character is described with feature points and line segment...
متن کاملبازشناسی برخط حروف مجزای دستنویس فارسی بر اساس تشخیص گروه بدنه اصلی با استفاده از ماشین بردار پشتیبان
In this paper a new method for the online recognition of handwritten Persian characters has been proposed which uses a set of simple features and Support Vector Machine (SVM) as a classifier. The task of preprocessing allows us to equalize feature vectors from different characters. This algorithm is implemented in two steps. In the first step, input character is classified into one of eighteen ...
متن کاملOn-Line Handwritten Alphanumeric Character Recognition Using Feature Sequences
In this paper we present an approach in which an on-line handwritten character is characterized by a sequence of dominant points in strokes and a sequence of writing directions between consecutive dominant points. The directional information is used for character preclas-siication and the positional information is used for ne classiication. Both preclassiication and ne classiication are based o...
متن کاملRelative Positioning of Stroke-Based Clustering: a New Approach to Online Handwritten Devanagari Character Recognition
In this paper, we propose a new scheme for Devanagari natural handwritten character recognition. It is primarily based on spatial similarity based stroke clustering. A feature of a stroke consists of a string of pen-tip positions and directions at every pen-tip position along the trajectory. It uses the dynamic time warping (DTW) algorithm to align handwritten strokes with stored stroke templat...
متن کاملA Harmony Search Algorithm for Recognition-Based Segmentation of Online Arabic Text
In this paper a Harmony Search algorithm (HS) is used for online Arabic text recognition. The algorithm is divided into two phases: text segmentation using dominant point detection and character recognition using HS. The segmentation algorithm uses dominant point detection to mark minimal number of points which could form the text skeleton. Then, the generated text skeleton is expressed as a di...
